Our full, two day ASD evaluation was a $10 copay at Kennedy Krieger. A later neuropsych was $20 or free. I can’t remember. Crazy long wait times. Think three plus years for the neuropsych. We got in after five months for the ASD evaluation but it was a toddler evaluation and they may have longer waits for older kids.
I think Children’s Hospital may also take insurance for evaluations. Both are top notch but you will wait a long, long time.

Hi - anyone have experience with Dr. Taylor at the center for cognitive therapy and assessment?

KKI in Baltimore does ASD evaluations; the list is long, but for us it was very fast because they called us when someone else cancelled, so it's worth getting your name in the queue.

Obviously, as others stated, the insurance plans vary but they will provide you the cost information up front; I think it was close to $2k for the outpatient visit fees.

Re: therapy availability: Children's has recommended two therapies to me that I could not find anywhere that took insurance (social skills playgroup for a 2 year old with suspected autism but no diagnosis; Unstuck and On Target for a 7yo with ADHD but not autism).

Our experience with the public school system was that they simply don't care about evaluating children who are neither failing academically (they told me two grades behind is their minimum) nor creating big problems for their own teachers. So basically they won't evaluate 2e kids in private school even though that's illegal.

No one has agreed to administer a stand alone ADOS

Unfortunately the school said they won’t do anything because it’s not affecting him academically and that is the measure by which they decide whether they can use school resources

You should definitely request that the school test as well. School psychologists are in fact trained to assess for autism and if you think it wasn’t correct, you have the right to an independent evaluation paid for by the school district.

There’s absolutely no need to spend money you don’t have on this.
