We happily give a few thousand plus each year. Get all the invites but never go. No visible favoritism for our kids.

I was class captain for my kid’s school’s major fundraising effort last year. You’d be surprised. Most people give a pretty small amount, just so we stop bothering them.

If you give above a few thousand dollars, you’ll be invited to special donor events. Just to give some perspective.

A 7-figure gift would be exceptionally unusual in this area.

Teacher here.

One parent asked for parent teacher conferences monthly and asked for more flexibility in grading.

They kept saying "after all we do for the school" but I could not tell if that meant that they wrote checks or coached.

They just seemed entitled. I was under very little pressure to bend.

The admin may know, but teachers probably don't.

I could be a billionaire and I’m still not giving a million to a school that “treats my kids like absolute garbage.” I don’t think donor kids should get special treatment but I do think simply paying tuition means a kid shouldn’t be “garbage.” Why would someone keep giving more money to that school? And even if someone else might consider that same treatment fair, it’s your kid and your money, so if by your definition the treatment is bad, stop giving them your money. Baffling.

People don't donate as much as you think they do. Take a look at a school's annual report for normal donation levels.

Sure, but I was responding to a pp who claimed they were a top 5 donor whose contributions “included a 7-figure gift,” meaning they donated more than $1 million and yet described their kids as being “treated like absolute garbage.” If that was in fact the case, stop throwing money and a school that treats your kids horribly and find a new school.
