Every kid at BASIS takes at least 6 AP exams and most take over a dozen.

But do they pass? I know kids at Basis who took AP Calc in 8th grade and got a 2. What purpose does that serve?

They have to take at least 6 AP exams and get a 3 on at least one. Here is what BASIS DC says:

We hold students to high academic standards.

The BASIS Charter School Curriculum requires
students to demonstrate mastery of challenging

as opportunities for them to demonstrate this
mastery. Students are prepared to start taking
AP Exams® as early as grade 8, are required
to take AP courses beginning in grade 9 and

graded AP Exams® also count as final exams
for AP courses. This ensures that we are holding
our students to the highest possible standards.

Also, I would note this snippet is slightly out of date because, starting this last year, BASIS started requiring 8th graders to take AP US Government & Politics.

It’s only relevant in that it is a requirement vs an option. That’s a big difference vs what kids normally do.

Most teachers do spend a few weeks doing test prep. Why would you make such a generalized statement as if teachers don’t care?

Because several of my kid’s did none…my kid was pretty motivated to do well so independently studied, but the teachers could have cared less how their students performed in the test.

When I say motivated…there are some teachers that explicitly state in September that almost 100% get a 3 or higher with 75% of the class scoring 4 or higher.

Maybe extreme the other way, but you know they really care about the test.
