Our HS soccer coach did this with his kid.

It's the job of the coach to build a program years out, so yes, they should be looking at birthates and notaing who to keep an eye on for the future. Who are the 08/09 players playing with the 07s? Is there a 10, playig with 08? Any decent coach is focused n more than just who's available next year.

All ECNL has to do is add graduating year to the team roster. Achieves the same result.
