Democrats have to defraud the entire country because republicans don’t vote for candidates democrats like.

Read the room. Republicans run on incredibly unpopular platforms and not appealing to the average voter. Abortion rights, gun control, culture wars to name a few. How will they win elections? They won’t if they continue on that path. Where is the middle ground? Stop blaming the Dems for that.

Democrats defrauded their voters and American voters because republicans run on incredibly unpopular platforms?

I don’t think democrats are responsible for the republican party platform whatsoever.

I agree, OP, that Rs are getting complacent. Cocky and complacent.

They aren't even bothering to put forth a platform. They think TRUMP is enough of a platform. I'll tell you what - it's enough of a platform that I don't even need to consider voting for them. Disgusting, disgraceful.

I have this hope-filled, probably stupid theory that the debate has awakened Democrats out of our malaise and complacency, too. I don't know how this turns out. I don't even know what SHOULD happen now. But I do not feel like I can rest a moment while the threat of Trump is so urgent.

I am hardly the left. But I am incensed about placing blame on the Democrats. We are in this mess because the Rs didn’t have the courage to put forth a decent candidate. This is the third time Trump is running. Seriously? and you blame the left?

I mean Dems lose the moral high ground here with their decision to trot out Biden again and try and convince people that not only is he currently fit to be president, but will be several years from now. Please we all know at this point that sure as hell ain’t true, so get off your high horse.

No high horse. But you have a lot of nerve to criticize Joe Biden as the candidate when Trump is running for a third time after all he has put this country through.

No, it does not take “nerve” to criticize Biden the candidate after what I watched last week.

Way more concerned about what Trump did in his 4 yrs in office and since then compared to one night.

It’s not really about 1 night, it’s the fact that he is obviously an elderly man on the decline and it is absurd to suggest that he will be mentally sharp enough to continue leading the country for the next 4 years. Anyone with parents now in their mid to late eighties know exactly where this is headed, and it’s nowhere good.

And, of course, it leads to the question of who is really running the country right now? Is it Joe Biden?

Whoever it is is doing a good job and I would like to stick with them. I know what it's like living under Trump's rule and I would like NOT to do that again.

Republicans are fools who think that persuasion still matters. In a diverse country, people vote their racial interest.

Republicans are be surprised when Biden gets even more votes counted (not cast) for him this time.

You think Trump is the best R candidate?

No, my opinion doesn’t run RNC elections for president. It’s up to republicans primary voters to elect their candidate. My thought counts as my vote. Other people’s thought counts as their vote. It’s the process we use to choose candidates.

If you don’t like the process, change it. If you don't like the candidate, don’t vote for him. If you want better choices, work for them.

Being a brat and blaming everyone for choices you don’t like is ridiculous, you aren’t the only one entitled to their opinion.

And at least the RNC respects the voting process and democracy to accept the candidate their voters choose. The DNC doesn’t allow that in their party. Democrat voters are finding that out now.

Huh? What are you babbling about? There was a Democratic primary, where the incumbent POTUS ran. He actually faced a slate of three opponents in the 2024 DC primary:
Joe Biden
Marianne Williamson
Armando Perez-Serrato

In the key state of New Hampshire, Joe Biden wasn't listed on the ballot yet he still won the primary as a write-in candidate with 79,100 votes. In New Hampshire there were 21 candidates running for POTUS in the Democratic Primary:
"President" R. Boddie
Terrisa Bukovinac
Eban Cambridge
Gabriel Cornejo
Mark Stewart Greenstein
Tom Koos
Paul V. LaCava
Star Locke
Frankie Lozada
Stephen P. Lyons
Raymond Michael Moroz
Derek Nadeau
Jason Palmer
Armando "Mando" Perez-Serrato
Dean Phillips
Donald Picard
Paperboy Prince
Richard Rist
Vermin Supreme
John Vail
Marianne Williamson

I still remember when the Virginia GOP canceled the primary in 2021 and required Republicans to go special locations in-person to choose Youngkin as their Governor candidate:

The results were tabulated by Republican officials two days after roughly 30,000 voters cast ranked-choice ballots at 39 locations around the state. Mr. Snyder conceded after more than 12 hours of vote counting, in which five candidates were knocked from contention, one by one, and their supporters’ next-choice votes were allocated to others still in the running. In the sixth round of counting, Mr. Youngkin passed the required 50 percent threshold.
....
The unusual nominating process came after an internal party squabble in which Republicans rejected holding a traditional primary, which would have drawn a larger and more diverse group of voters. Former Republican officials from an era before the party fell hard from power in Virginia criticized the nominating process as likely to increase the G.O.P.’s marginalization.

Agree. You think the RNC wants Trump as their candidate? They would love if he went away. But ultimately the votes get to chose the candidate in primaries. The RNC doesn’t control Trump. He is his own entity. The DNC and Biden are the exact opposite.

I appreciate that is your perspective but the die hard Trumpers and the die hard Biden supporters aren’t going to determine the outcome here, it’s the people who are horrified by both options and have no idea what they are going to do.

In 2016 the country was looking for a populist candidate. If the democrats had let Bernie be the nominee, he would have won. But it was “Hilary’s turn”, so she was the candidate and Trump won instead. The Democratic leadership did not read the tea leaves back then and this is the mess we’re in now.

We wouldn’t be here at all if not for the Apprentice. A reality show. Let that sink in.

If it wasn’t Trump it would have been someone else. The country was agitating for someone outside the establishment. The democrats misread that.

Democrat power brokers read that perfectly and have enacted several plans to stop it, one of which we are watching explode in America’s face now in real time. DNC fraud affects our entire country.

Someone outside the establishment is fine, but someone as corrupt as Trump is not.

Agree. I just wish either party could put up one viable moderate candidate. Just one. But apparently that’s asking too much.

Your personal opinion doesn’t run American presidential elections. If you don’t like the candidates, run yourself. Give Americans the option of voting for you, the perfect moderate.
