this. also, in the endless list of things no one warns pregnant people about, pregnancy can ruin your gallbladder. i had to have my gallbladder out about a year and a half postpartum.

Ideally you would ditch all the junky food products and the unhealthy foods and focus on plant based and healthy fats, too - that’s for overall health and longevity.

But definitely beans in the morning will shut off your food noise and dial down appetite. I’ve been eating beans for weeks now and I can’t even eat dinner anymore, I just have breakfast and lunch and maybe a small salad or some nuts or fruit in the early evening.

Fiber is really miraculous, and very good for you!

How do you prepare the beans?

I eat them refried - vegan. I make a batch once a week and use black beans because they are overall the most nutrient dense/rich of the beans. I add onion, garlic and spices.

In a pinch when I haven’t food prepped I use Goya refried vegan black beans and I add some more garlic and spices because I like a lot of flavor.

You can eat them all kinds of ways for breakfast - mix in eggs, beans on a whole grain seeded toast, bean burrito, etc.

The more you can front load fiber into your morning meal, the more sated you will feel all day and it will really change your appetite and quiet the food noise. It really works!

Thanks, so Goya is canned black beans correct?

Yes the Goya refried black beans are canned. They are pretty yummy but higher in sodium than when I make my own home cooked batch, so I only use them in a pinch.

If your diet is relatively low in sodium (mine is on account of being mostly whole fresh food and plant based, zero ultra processed stuff) the sodium from canned beans won’t be a big deal.

Please share your cooking method for beans. I've never had success cooking beans from dried beans. They either don't get soft or get too soft and fall apart.

NP and belated poster but I struggled with this for years. I add baking soda while the beans soak for hours. Rinse well and then when I cook them, I boil them and then throw out the water once it gets to a boil. Then I use a combination of vegetable stock and a little water to actually cook them. They're usually soft.

Yep. It used to be talked about pretty often the link between ozempic and glp1 agonists and cancer. The cancers it’s associated with are aggressive and deadly too.

It is. Some studies show that Ozempic decreases cancer risk in obese individuals.

https://www.healthline.com/health-news/ozempic-and-weight-loss-drugs-like-wegovy-can-curb-cancer-risks

Some studies have shown a slight increase in risk of one type of thyroid cancer that is often hereditary. Some have shown there is not. But of you have that type of thyroid cancer in your family, legit doctors won’t prescribe it for you.

To be more accurate, the studies linking GLP-1s to one particular type of thyroid cancer are in *rodents* not people. There are four types of thyroid cancer. By far the most common in humans is papillary thyroid carcinoma. The one that was found in rats is medullary thyroid cancer, which is extremely rare in humans. Between 1992 and 2006, there were only 976 cases of medullary thyroid cancer in the U.S.

There are considerable differences in the biology of GLP-1 receptors in human thyroids vs. rodent thyroids, so the contraindication against GLP-1s for anyone with a history or a family history of medullary thyroid cancer is to be super-conservative, not because the studies of GLP-1s in humans found a higher incidence of medullary thyroid cancer.

Here's a 2024 study published in the British Journal of Medicine of a large Scandinavian cohort, finding no substantially increased risk of thyroid cancer over nearly 4 years for users of GLP-1s:

And, as an n=1, I have papillary thyroid carcinoma (Bethesda Grade VI, so yes, it's real cancer) and I am in an active surveillance program for it. My doctor is the leading endocrinologist expert on papillary thyroid carcinoma in the U.S. I am monitored via ultrasound yearly. I have been on GLP-1s for three years. He has no concern and my cancer hasn't budged.

It isn’t.

Or, to your basic point, how dare anybody raise any questions with the vaunted ozempic. Nothing bad has ever happened with any medical intervention ever. Even when the package inserts actually list all the potential side effects; those are just fake news.

It totally is. It exactly is.

You know what else is deadly, and not at all rare? Complications from obesity.
