DD has test anxiety so I try to neutralize her stress at home. She’s been working hard all year in school and studying with Khan at home. I want her to do her best and then let it go. Whatever the outcome, I’m sure she learned something and I’m proud of her. If she does well, she’ll submit to schools and if she doesn’t, she won’t.

+1 My kid is marginally keyed up, but makes no difference to me.

Aren't you guys cool! Keep up the good work surveying DCUM non-stop and invalidating people's feelings!

I’m sorry, is this thread only for anxious helicopter parents? OP asked a question right in the title and I answered it honestly.

Don’t take it personally. These helicopter parents strike back hard and fast. It’s in their DNA.

What?? It's the haters who respond with record speed.

NP. Agreed. Talk about projection.

Caring about your child's well being and having feels of concern for your child as they go through various things is not being a helicopter parent. If you were overseeing their studying (beyond if they ASKED for some minor help) to some crazy degree, that's helicoptery. But just having feeling is bad for you people now?

Jeez.

Sure. The first two posters on this thread answered honestly, and were met with a snarky “aren’t you guys so cool!” Please tell me who’s the hater.

Agreed. I enjoy hearing how other parents approach things. It’s not snarky to point about another way. Jeez.

No, they are typically not considered even at highly selective schools.

Their value is in placement and credit at public colleges.

They are REQUIRED for Oxford and Cambridge and most other top colleges outside of the US.

be happy at Montgomery college PP (you and your kid)

DP

I think that’s the difference between you and me. If Montgomery College was the best place for my kid, I’d support her 100%. Because I’m not an obnoxious a$$hole.

No. They come into play a little if a student hasn’t submitted SAT/ACT scores. But they do not weigh heavily at all.

My kid, also a sophomore, is taking his first 2 ever. Pre-calc he's not studying for outside of the in-class review. I told him colleges aren't likely to give him credit for it anyway, so chill on that one.

He's studying for ap comp sci. Says his teacher didn't cover some of the stuff that's on the study guide an told them not to worry about it. But kid is going over it anyway just in case. Wants to do well with this one as it will be important for his probable major.

Everyone is pretty chill here though - next year may be different

Given past experience, that doesn't mean ALL results will be available first thing on July 8th.

I have kids taking a few starting this week. One kid is really ill with Flu B so has anti-virals and anything else we can pump him with, to be well enough to take them.

Why would you think sending a very sick kid with flu B just to make other kids (who are also taking AP exams) and the proctor sick?! There are make-ups for this kind of situation (and even if the make-up is a bit harder - who knows? - surely your student won't do their best if they are sick with flu). If you must send them, at least give them an N95 (but I know you won't - given your selfish attitude).

Amazing how presumptuous you are. You have no idea what our contingency plans are. It is MONDAY and his first exam is FRIDAY. He may well be ok by Wednesday and yes, he will go wearing a mask, and you, you can go feck yourself with a spoon.
