I think someone above has a point. Are ATS students always at the top of the class in their middle and high schools? I’m not sure it has the advantage you think it has.
I don’t know if they keep data on that. Most of the kids from my child’s ATS class went to Williamsburg or Hamm FWIW. Very few went to Gunston, Kenmore or TJ
Anonymous wrote:The ATS kids who are seniors in high school this year were pretty evenly spread around the middle schools, except for Gunston. I remember that a number of the girls actively chose Kenmore for STEAM over Williamsburg and Swanson because those schools were really overcrowded at the time (Hamm opened their 8th grade year). The vast majority are at W-L or Yorktown now. I know ATS kids going to the following colleges:
UVA
Vt Tech
JMU
William and Mary
Bowdoin
Boston University
Georgetown University
CNU
Duke
Pitt
UMiami
Fordham
Colgate
Indiana
McGill
Chicago
Curtis Institute of Music

I bet it’s super obvious at Williamsburg and Hamm then. The ATS kids are the high achievers and everyone else can’t keep up. I’m right… right?
That wasn’t my point, though I wasn’t clear, maybe mixing up this thread and the option school one. My point is that many of the kids there continue on high performing schools.
ATS students get to choose where they attend MS and HS? (And Hamm/Williamsburg may be *higher* performing than, say, Gunston, but again, that isn’t saying much.)
What you’re saying may have been true in the past, but since residency checks started, Gunston became much less crowded. Fewer transfers happening now than in the past.
No, they go to their zoned middle schools
Exactly. Though some have been able to take advantage of transfers in the past (like when Gunston was overcrowded). Not the case now!
Actually there were some transfers available this year

Half of this year’s graduating class at Stanford attended ATS for elementary school. That’s nothing to sneeze at.
