If you were to fly to NY, by the time you drive to airport, check-in etc. and get to the city on the other end, the trip is not that much shorter than 4 hours.

Whoops - I see my concern was discussed after I decided to post this. Yes, Spothero works but OP should be aware that they will literally catalog her car in a parking shelf and there will be no access until her reservation is complete!

Why would you want access in NYC??

Stay at a hotel with parking. Easy peasy.

+1. You aren't going to save money or "hassle" by parking in NJ with 4 people. Folks act like we're living in 1990 and everything is "so hard." It's called spothero. Look it up on that little computer you have in your pocket.

We recently spent two nights at a cabin that was a 2.5 hr drive each way and I felt like I’d had a vacation. I’d happily go a bit further and spend 3 nights. Is your concern NY, the drive, or both?

I’ll add the caveat that our 7 year old gets carsick and threw up on the drive there and I’d still do it!

Why not stay home and have your husband take the kids? You sound rigid and inflexible and maybe you could use the break. I drive to NYC for a few hours to visit family. The drive to NY isn't long but once there if you don't make it to the belt parkway or the bridges into the city before 11 you are going to be in a lot of traffic. He should take an acela and take the kids solo. You don't need a car in NYC.
