Congrats op. If it’s not too late try to get a band that doesn’t contain nickel because that can be a cause of allergies.

My DH was a PhD candidate when we married with a $20k annual stipend. I had just finished graduate school and was staying my job. He got me a wedding band with diamonds, not realizing it was a wedding band, for about $800. We then bought a more traditional engagement ring together for $1,200 at an estate sale. I still love both (and him ) and would pick them out all over again 16 years later. One gauche colleague told me that she would have turned down anyone who proposed with a ring worth less than a car, but otherwise I don’t think anyone’s commented on it much.

Definitely stick within the range she gave you for size. Some say bigger is better but that wasn’t the case for me.

I have a lab diamond so the price difference between a 1.5 carat and 2.5 carat was negligible but I did not like the way the 2.5 looked at all. Maybe as a cocktail ring, but not for an ering. I have small fingers and it looked silly on me.
