A friend of mine, met her husband on wedding day. It was arranged and though both had full say, they left it on their families. He was working in US after his masters while she was working in India after her bachelors, both attended same engineering school but didn't overlap as they were 4 years apart. It's been 27 years and they've a really solid and happy marriage. A miracle.

I'm a DC native that went to the west coast for college and moved back two years after graduating. I'd kept in touch with a DC girl I'd known since I was 11 (was my 7th grade girlfriend for a month or two). She heard I was back in town and called me to say "I met your wife". I replied that I wasn't married and she said "No, your future wife. She works with me. Come meet us in Adams Morgan on Saturday."

So I did. I married the coworker and had three kids.

We celebrate 20 years in June.

I once took a gay friend as my plus one to a wedding and he was wonderful. When my aunts later found out he was gay they were crushed. He was so nice I would have slept with him if he ever asked. We are still friends 30 years later.

This is like a lifetime movie. We were 25 and met right out of college and we became really good friends but no romance. Met at 25 introduced by friends and dated for 6 months before he moved, we were casual long distance for 2.5 years, then lived in the same place dating for 1 year, then engaged, married about 5 years after we met. Married for 27 years

A common theme of happy marriages seems to be being friends before dating. Not that it’s a guarantee but it seems to help.


Which shows that the whole "didn't want to risk the friendship" thinking is flawed. Plus, people always say they want their partner to be their best friend; why not try dating a friend? Plus, friendships are much more fleeting than marriage anyway; the bigger risk to the friendship is *not* getting married.


We were good friends and never discussed risking the relationship. We went from friends to lovers so fast there was no time for a discussion. And after the fact it was too late anyway. I’m a very thoughtful and analytic person but not that night.

Pp here. I feel like I hear a lot more horror stories now from my coworkers in their 20s than I ever experienced or my friends experienced back when we were on it.


I met DH on match in 2007. Moved In together at 1 yr. Married in 2010.


I met my husband on Match in 2009!

I was at the end of my 30-day subscription and hadn't found anyone I really liked yet (had been on plenty of dates but just never felt a spark with anyone) so I was debating giving it a break and maybe trying again later. He had just joined and paid for his subscription and I was the only one he ever went out with.


That’s hilarious! My DH was the one who was about to unsubscribe when I had just joined and he was my first (and only) match date.
