Being on the Penn campus feels like you’re in the wilderness surrounded by places you don’t want to go. There’s a reason cops are so prevalent. Northwestern is in a really safe area where you can focus on your studies & not worry about other things.
Penn’s campus is safe but your kids need to be able to navigate a city safely if they are going to explore Philly beyond the immediate surroundings of campus. Would also be true for leaving Evanston and exploring Chicago.
…..or even some parts of Evanston which aren’t particularly safe

No, Penn stands out even among Ivy League as the place for toxic, cutthroat kids.
Not true and shame on you for saying that.
Agree, shame on you. What in the heck? You clearly do not have a student at Penn. We know many and have an upperclassman there. It is not cutthroat. They have never met anyone as these posts describe. It is stressful but their Stanford and Northwestern and Princeton friends from their HS report the same. Classes push them. They are all sci or engineering or CS and it’s hard at all these schools, but that is very different from cutthroat come on.

More specifically, #2 and #6 in current national university rankings by USNWR.
So, I guess you would also show Penn vs Northwestern (the topic of this thread) the same way?
Is that your conclusions as well?

How do you know that one school is better than the other for one who is undecided as to major ?
Stats of incoming students is nearly identical and class sizes are smaller at Northwestern than at U Penn.
This isn’t elementary school. Anyone picking a college because the average class size is smaller as any criteria is really missing the forest through the trees. Needless to say neither school has large class sizes once you get past some intro courses in a major or freshman seminar classes.
Your two posts lead me to think about a movie title--Dumb and Dumber.
You lack knowledge and insight about both universities if you think that one school is better than the other. Same students, different locations. Really depends upon specific majors.
The Penn brand is worth a lot more for networking, employment opportunities, and so on. The signaling model of education is real in the labor market. What does your degree signal to employers? It would be like saying there is no difference between MIT and Northwestern.
New movie title based on your three recent posts in this thread: Dumb, Dumber, and Dumbest.
Only you are discussing MIT in this thread about Penn and Northwestern. Plus try to focus on the thread topic.
