I mean, the way the lottery works is that you essentially have one "draw", and you get matched based on that draw. So if your draw is poor (unlucky) and you only put schools on your list that are in very high demand, you'll have high waitlist numbers everywhere. That's how the system is designed to work.

There's a ton of movement in the PK3 wait lists because a lot of people stay in their daycare for PK3 in the end. You may still get in to something.

Yes, it's a weird coincidence. Usually one of your twins will get a great or at least really good number.

Slightly strange results. I have twins and for the several schools they were both waitlisted at they have very close numbers:
Twin A school 1 waitlisted 39th
Twin B school 1 waitlisted 41st

Twin A school 2 waitlisted 76th
Twin B school 2 waitlisted 79th

Twin A school 3 waitlisted 112th
Twin B school 3 waitlisted 115th

That’s definitely not correct. You’re reading it wrong. Payne’s scores are very good for demographics, but L-T’s are better across the board…

As a long time Payne parent, I can say all grades have great teachers, but the older grades are some of the strongest, which I know isn't always the case. They have also gotten recognition for doing a better job than other schools in achievement across all sub groups (still a lot of growth across all schools in DCPS).
But they are both good options, I have heard great things about LT too.



This is great to hear. All the parents I know with children at Payne speak very highly of it.

Number 2- 234
Number 3- 368
Number 4- 370




If you really want the free day care there are likely still schools you can get into with post-lottery applications. Though, if you only applied to four schools, then it sounds like you weren't counting on sending your kid to PK3.

The thing about the lottery is that either it's a good year or a bad year. This was a bad year for you.
