Is this a joke? I would think the last thing on any decent person's mind this morning would be cruise ship routes? Prayers for the victims and for strength of the rescue crews.
It’s spring break, a natural thought.

I used to drive my kids back and forth from VA to MD several times a week and would keep their life jackets in the car because I am a little paranoid. I'm also a bridge engineer and have an unnatural fear of such an incident. We don't go as frequently anymore, but I'm gonna put them back in the car.
You truly think you’ll be able to get to those vests and your children while saving yourself!?

Unfortunately we didn't spend any infrastructure money to make bridges impenetrable to collision from ships.
It’s entirely possible I am misunderstanding how these things are constructed and work but at most…

I was actually thinking about this. Maybe you could grab onto and climb a little up one of the collapsed pilings? I doubt you can save an infant but maybe an older child if they can swim. Has anyone that was on the bridge in a car been found alive???
Those pilings are covered in sharp barnacles and slick algae with very cold water temps. The impact hitting the water and debris is another issue. Bad conditions all around even if they did escape the car.
