If you read the news articles, it looks like the two younger teens were hanging out at a building where the kid who died lived (an extended stay hotel). The 18 year old showed up where they were and they argued and then he shot at them. It doesn't sound like they were "with" him.

He is not currently an fcps student.

It looks like he was there last year but no clue if he is a current student.

Is he a student at Westfield?

The suspect is an 18 year who is apparently wanted in the shooting death of another kid and is involved in dealing drugs.

Another westfield parent here-I don't know the protocol for this sort of tragic situation, but until I saw this thread, I had no idea that the death of a student email from last night was actually a murder committed by another teen who is possibly also a student and still has not been found! I assumed a death from illness or suicide.

My sophomore came home and said the announcements this morning just said, a student died, see your counselor if you are upset. She said the school was full of police all day and none of her friends knew the involved students (which really struck home for me how huge and impersonal these giant high schools are with multiple middle school feeders. I can't imagine something similar happening in my regular sized 1990s high school and me not knowing all the names of the kids before second period.)

My heart absolutely breaks for these families.

Facts of the case from the news outlets:
1. A fight took place among 3 individuals. All three were teenagers, with one of the individuals being 14 years old.
2. Incident took place near parking lot of a hotel.
3. After the fight broke up, suspect shot at two victims. 14 year old was struck and killed. Other victim was shot at but no bullet struck the second victim.
4. Incident occurred at approximately 3:33 pm.
5. Deceased victim attended Westfield HS.

What is not known:
1. Were all three persons riding the bus home from Westfield HS?
2. Did the incident happen on the walk from a bus stop?
3. Was suspect on the bus? Did the suspect have the gun on the bus?
4. Was the gun on the suspect during the day in the school?

Again it’s an absolutely horrific incident. I pray for all the families involved. I pray for all of our children to be able to go to/from school safely. I know I was certainly more cautious about my DC walking home from the Westfield bus stop today.

There's a school bus stop right there. I think they were outside and just happened to be by the hotel.
