Agree with GT and Auburn, but Clemson isn't really known for engineering in the industry. And GT's a difficult admit.

I wouldn’t be bragging about UGA and it’s Engineering program. Clemson is clearly stronger than Georgia in Engineering. UGA and Alabama are peers. #90 at USNWR.

So what? Universities rate each other all the time. I think they know a lot more about quality than the average DCUM poster.

As far as the type of kids there ... there are ALL types, and it being a party school, well, that will be at every school. It is up to your kid to make their own priorities and do what they need to do.

All the kids I know that went there have landed on their feet and done well, but most kids I Know were honors college kids, not run of the mill kids who couldn't be accepted anywhere else.

The campus is beautiful. The weather is pretty great. Some people said it is spread out. I think it is a great right size, as I went to a much larger school that is really spread out! To me, Auburn seemed too compact, and i didn't really like the location of the football field there!

The opportunities at Alabama are there for the taking!


DS is at Alabama and this post is absolutely spot on. All types of kids, amazing opportunities, fun place to be. DS is bio and all the seniors in his lab have had amazing Med school and PhD placements.

For Engineering, GT is far superior. Auburn and Clemson are comparable to each other. Alabama considerably lower than all three.

I didn't have sex in college. I knew a pregnancy would put graduation in question, so I just...didn't do it. You're making a big deal out of nothing.


The stats show you are in the minority.

I’m not the above poster, but being realistic, a large majority of people who are college aged are sexually active. I wouldn’t count on my child (male or female) remaining a virgin until they graduate.

I had the opposite view of the Alabama campus and Tuscaloosa. Was expecting not to like it and found a beautiful, more modern than expected campus with a great college vibe and downtown Tuscaloosa small but cute. The out of state numbers at Alabama are a huge positive and the guaranteed merit aid that attracts top honors candidates is VERY generous. We were all surprised how much we liked Alabama Auburn is not on the list because we would choose the top VA schools over paying for Auburn.

To add to my previous comment - the average and median Auburn student is probably more accomplished than the average and median Alabama student, but the same is not true for the top 10 percent.

Alabama has a much better academic community due to having the nation's most generous, high-profile guaranteed merit scholarships attracting top talent from across the US.

Especially given how insane admissions has been recently, with many top students not getting into top schools, a significant number of them end up at Bama.
