Yes, it’s been a thing for teen boys for at least a couple of years now.

Dang. That means it will be “out” by the time my dc hits puberty. We’re pretty sure he’ll end up with curly hair once he hits puberty. He’ll likely ask me to have it straightened!

No. They are labor intensive and still smell. Most salons will not do them.

Had one done for our 14-year old boy. Cost about $125. Make sure you use the small curlers if you do this - we went to Hair Cuttery in downtown Vienna. They did a good job and he wants to do it again.

As others have noted upthread, this has been a total thing the past few years. It's particularly popular among young Asian men.

Perma are back? Like curly hair perms? They were awful in the 80s, I have first hand experience. Please talk him out of this

I realize this is an old thread, but I wanted to add: the students learning to do hair at Aveda Institute in Ballston need to do a certain number of perms to graduate. Reasonably priced and young/fun inside. So if you kid wants a perm anyway, would be great to help these students out! I get my hair cut there and have always had a good experience.
