Someone mentioned Zatinya; I've been going for 20 years and still find it consistently delicious.
Yes! I just ate at Zaytinya a couple weeks ago as a reunion get-together with a friend that moved away from DC 7 years ago and was in town on a work trip. We were both so happy to see the quality is still top notch and the restaurant looks great and our service was excellent during a busy lunch service. Yes, it's sticking with a time-tested model as I think it's been open for 15 years, maybe longer? If I still lived in DC I probably would focus on more exciting and new restaurants, but Zaytinya is still as good as it's ever been.
It opened 22 years ago. I raised a kid from birth to adulthood in that span, and haven’t been to Zaytinya since before DC was born. I will have to go back now!
Anonymous wrote:Agree with Founding Farmers and Matchbox - both have definitely gone downhill. I also felt St. Anselm was just meh.

they declined when they stopped making the bread fresh in the restaurant. Same for Lebanese Taverna. It makes a huge difference.Anonymous wrote:Fast casual, but Moby Dick
Anita’s slipped after Anita died. They changed the refried beans and it hasn’t been the same since.Anonymous wrote:Maybe NoVA-specific but Anita’s. I know it’s supposed to be old-school and a lot of people have nostalgia for the place, but it’s just gross. It’s gross Mexican, it’s gross Tex-Mex, it’s gross Americanized Mexican.

Not a fan of Xiquet. Food was good, but portions were comically small, especially the signature paella.
Also think Two Amy’s is overrated.
I don’t like Two Amy’s. Burnt mediocre pizza is not good.
Don’t forget soggy!
