It’s always been underenrolled but it would be pretty easy to pull an adjacent neighborhood in to fill those seats. It is definitely a rundown and outdated building decades overdue to be renovated or rebuilt. They’ve had it on the list at least since my oldest was in K and now she’s graduating college. They just kept pushing construction back.
They should shift Fallsreach neighborhood to Cold Spring. It was so strange being bused across Falls Road to go to Beverly Farms, when we could have walked to Cold Spring — from a native of MoCo
That’s such a great idea. I hope they consider it. Why close such a high performing school that’s fed by almost all walkers (the center being the big exception).

Busing is a band-aid. I'd rather see MCPS invest in well thought-out programs at specific schools that are attractive and open to students in upcounty/midcounty.

There are a good number of kids at SV now who really need to be attending Clarksburg. As an SV Germantown parent, I was shocked to see how far some of those kids live from the SVHS community. I thought they were there for a special program.
Good luck with that. SV is underenrolled no chance
The bigger issue is that Clarksburg HS is overcrowded and getting moreso each year. More kids needs to be rezoned from Clarksburg, not to Clarksburg.
Start with all the kids at Clarksburg HS who live close to Watkins Mill. They should be going to Watkins Mill instead of Clarksburg. Then some of the Hallie Wells kids can go to Damascus. I really think they messed up the upcounty boundary study which was supposed to fix the overcrowding at Clarksburg (it didn't) but instead the BOE decided it was more important to fix the demographic issues between Neelsville and Rocky Hill; and the 3 high schools.
They've been zoned for Clarksburg since Clarksburg opened in 2006. And people in Clarksburg have been saying, "We don't want those poor kids from over there in our school" since 2006.

I think most people in Clarksburg are just wondering why they can't go to a school that's less than 3 miles away from them. Anyway, regardless of what happens, I hope they use this opportunity to optimize boundaries now that they are including 11 high schools. There's definite room for improvement.
I really feel it’s delusional that people here believe the boundary study will optimize the distance. We’re going to see more busing for sure.
The boundary study won't optimize for distance. You know why? Because there are four factors in boundary studies, and it is impossible to optimize for four things. The boundary study will balance the four factors.
Sure. That’s the point. It will only create more wacky boundaries.
