I would put Tufts last — way too expensive for not the best experience. We live close by and I know lots of kids who go there. I personally think they have a type — academically smart but otherwise dull kids. It’s not known much outside of the east coast either.

It’s our top choice for our son, who scored a 35 on his ACT. I suppose he could get into a higher ranked school, but we just can’t find anything we like better. The students seem smart, curious, and grounded. The professors are truly committed. The campus is idyllic. We’re also in Chicago and suspect he’ll end up here post college, which probably makes it more appealing to us.

Ignorant comment. LACs have incredible outcomes because they teach students how to think. Clearly you did not attend one.

Correct. I went to Yale. Heard of it? Most people outside of recruiters are not familiar with LACs.

I graduated from a small LAC and then got my Doctorate at Cornell. Ever heard of it? Every one of my friends that graduated with me (late ‘80s) achieved career success, at least on their terms.

Ha! Same. Small LAC for undergrad, full ride to Ivy for grad school. Grads from all of these SLACs have incredible success rates with top tier grad schools. Imagine having close relationships with the very professors who will write your letters of recommendation? Not everyone goes to college to be recruited to Goldman Sachs.

Agree. This person obviously shops for produce at Costco. He’s never been to a farmers market in his life.
