if good guys are carrying guns, it just makes it easier for bad guys to bring their guns and blend in. And since the bad guys are nuts and on drugs, you really can't realistically expect them to be afraid of the good guys.

If the presence of 800 LEOs ("good guys") isn't enough to deter gun crime, then we are truly living in a lawless time. Expecting "good guys" to bail us out each and every time is simply not realistic. Reducing the number of guns and making it harder to get them is what's needed.

Good guys tackled one perp. Most likely a gun free zone. So law abiding good “guys” with guns obeyed the law and criminals didn’t. Commit a crime with a gun mandatory 25 years without parole plus whatever criminal sentence. That will at least send a message and keep those with impulse control issues off the street.

Good guys WITHOUT guns tackled the shooter. In that crowd, there were probably plenty of "good guys with guns" with pistols in their purses or strapped to their ankles or tucked in their asscracks or wherever else yet not a single one of them stepped up. That "good guys with guns" crap about deterring crime is a total myth that's been sold by the NRA for far too long.
In fairness to the good guys with guns (but underscoring the ridiculousness of the "good guys with guns" argument), shooting at the bad guys probably would have caused a lot more collateral damage than tackling the bad guy.

This is the kind of binary thinking that I saw a lot of during the COVID vaccination/mask debates. If gun control doesn't completely eliminate murders, it's not worth doing at all. If vaccinations/masks don't prevent illness, only reduce its prevalence and severity, it's not worth doing at all.
The obvious point is that a person of bad intent can kill more people faster with a gun than with a knife.

Sounds like it was an argument between two individuals and the victims were caught in the crossfire. The same thing happens every week in DC but the shooters aren’t usually using military assault weapons.

No. It might have been an argument that broke out into a gun fight. Although one guy had an AR type gun so it seems possible he came with a pre-planned agenda to kill a specific person or maybe he came ready for a known possibility of a gang fight. But there's no indication that it was terrorism or a planned mass murder.

My guess is someone stepped on the shooter’s Jordans or otherwise disrespected him (inadvertently bumped him…in a crowd), words were exchanged, then shots were fired.

And it’s precisely why people should not be allowed to walk around with guns.
