She has a 1490 SAT and is on track for valedictorian (she's never gotten lower than an A) but her ECs are not up to par for top schools
With a 1490 SAT, her odds are probably better at a test optional school.
Like Northeastern![]()

It’s definitely hostile. Not sure if that’s unusual.

They are all reaches. Start thinking about matches and safeties.
Make sure you can afford them all. Use each of their Net Price Calculators.
I definitely have. She has GW and Fordham in mind for safeties. All of the schools she has picked are affordable
Fordham and GW are targets, NOT safeties. Advice kindly meant to a newbie.
Husband is convinced they're safeties. What school should she add as a true safety then?
If you had said Harvard or MIT were targets then GW and Fordham would be safeties. But if you consider Northeastern, BU, Tufts, and BC DC’s targets then a true safety would be U Mass Boston.
Even with an SAT score of 1490 and only As? I don't think she would go to UMass Boston, but I will suggest it to her. Thanks!

Tufts is a little outside the city, so if they are choosing a school specifically for “Boston”, that might not fit the bill.
BU & Northeastern sound like the EDs.
Agree! Currently leaning toward NEU ED1 and BU ED2. DD will make the final call, of course. Thanks![]()

We visited in the past and she didn't like Brandeis. I liked it but in the end she is the one who will have to attend
You visited Brandeis but you DIDN’T visit BC Tufts or BU?? You were just randomly in Waltham, Massachusetts? C’mon OP.
Here’s some advice, you need to be smarter about your plans for posting. See, most kids who attend BC, Tufts, BU, even UMich, ND! Would Make A Plan first, they wouldn’t just wing it and be all impulsive the way you are. You see, you can fake it but only for so long. At some point, you need real substance…..it’s a lot like …well, it’s a lot like ……colleges, do you know what I mean?
Well, I did have a plan, but I did not anticipate my DD wanting to apply to schools in Boston too. My oldest applied to only Harvard and Brandeis in Boston so those were the only schools we saw when we visited. Also I have family in Lowell so we stopped there on the way. But we are visiting those relatives frequently so taking DD to see the Boston schools she is considering is not inconvenient...
Riiiiiiigggght. It’s amazing, in all your postings, you aren’t transparent at all.
Casper.
