I can’t fathom how anyone would throw themselves a huge gala, less than a year after their child disappeared. That entire scene was just completely unbelievable.

Here I was thinking it was only three eps long and I watched the last one yesterday... apparently it's six! I'm glad there are 3 more.

I watched it for about 25 seconds and gave up.

Thursdays I think. I watched ep3 yesterday

I have only watched the first two episodes but have read in reviews that there is a later episode that focuses on the lives of the two "helpers" who work for Margaret and Hilary, who are both Filipino (and thus also expats) and that's the episode that brought a lot of reviewers around on the show.

I've also read that people think that episode was written and filmed in part because of criticism the show received when it started filming in Hong Kong, because the government gave them special permission to relax Covid protocols for filming and there was anger at what was seen as special rules for rich Americans that put the workers around them at risk.

But also, the show runner is Lulu Wang, who made The Farewell with Akwafina, so I'm inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt. I do assume she had some constraints in making the show, both due to Amazon oversight and because Nicole Kidman is an executive producer and probably had more creative control than would be typical of the lead actor in a show like this.
