Spit out your drink because the comment was so moronic, I take it?

Please never sign your child up for any recreational sports or activities, as you have no respect or appreciation for the effort out in by volunteers.

Request denied....you are mad because you are a Karen.

Without "Karens" and "Kens", your kid's cheap rec sport wouldn't have gym doors unlocked, a practice schedule, volunteer coaches, clocks brought to gyms at 8 am on Sat and picked back up at 8 pm on Sat, and etc etc etc. Dealing with FCPS on gym issues is a hassle. You have to fight to get enough permits for the number of kids in your program. They close abruptly without notice, they don't unlock when they are supposed to, you can't find the custodians (they often sneak out of the building on weekends). If you have never volunteered, you have no idea how aggravating it is.

Yup I've been in charge...but I still try to not be a Karen. You do you.

What exactly have you been in charge of? With Fairfax County & FCPS gyms, you have to be a Karen.

FCPS stands for Fairfax County Public Schools-plural. So your post title is grammatically incorrect. It should be “Why ARE,” not “Why IS.” And to practice your critical thinking skills, one incident at one school does not represent the entire district.

Despite that, our org has recurring issues with custodians not unlocking the doors for our scheduled practices and games. If we don't show up in the first hour of permit use, the custodians lock up and go home (despite being paid for the whole day. We are supposed to get a four hour grace period per county rules, but no one is wiling to enforce it. The schools also frequently cancel community use during the week and don't tell the county, then we show up and our teams can't practice.

An hour late? I’d have given you 30mins tops and then I’m locking up and putting in for my time, and going out for lunch or a quick 9 holes. You are welcome to use the outdoor black top. Otherwise if something is important to you show up on time.

Plus if this has happened to you more than once and you failed to adjust your behavior accordingly (ie get there on time or at least before he locks up an hour after his arrival) that means you have a hard time with pattern recognition and the janitor, who is obviously a master of pattern recognition is quicker on the uptake than you, that’s all.

Oh. You don't understand the program. A group gets a permit for a set amount of time, for instance 8 am -8 pm. They aren't required to be there when the permit starts at 8 am. They have four hours to start using the space. Since gym space is so scarce, most groups begin right at the start time, but they are not required to. The groups pay whether they are using the space, or not. The custodian is being paid extra to be there on the weekend, by the group with the permit. The door is supposed to be unlocked when the permited time begins, whether or not anyone has shown up yet. If no one shows up after 4 hours, the custodian can go home and keeps the extra pay. These are regulations set out by NCS that custodians are supposed to follow.

The issue groups have is: custodians not unlocking doors when permits begin (or, at all) and custodians leaving for the day before the four hour deadline.

OK, and if they don’t show up, how is your overall life affected? Not at all.

Welll, the people who volunteer to run the leagues have to scramble and beg for more gym space--often there is no more available so the game or practice is just not rescheduled, pay the refs anyway, try and reschedule, and deal with angry parents who showed up for a game or practice but were locked out of the gym. We have a problem school that we get permits for and the weekend custodian often leaves the building and can't be found by the county off-hours supervisors. So, our org can't get into the building at the scheduled time.

I’m the PP. So you just described a bad day. Again, ultimately your overall life is not really affected. A few of these posts have been overly dramatic.
