I’m a 5’4” Jewish woman and I clearly remember being by far the shortest girl in my Midwestern high school filled with mostly ethnic German, Slavic and Scandinavian descent kids. My friends all toward over me at 5’7” at a minimum. As soon as I moved to the East Coast for college, where my classmates were also Jewish, Asian, Italian and Irish, boom I was average height. Yes there are tall Jews and Italians and quite a few Irish and even Asians, but on a whole they are shorter than Norwegians and Serbians. Add in indigenous people from El Salvador and the average American height it going to get shorter.
This isn’t rocket science and there is no need for conspiracy theories on this one.

Changing heights are due to changing demographics.
Hello, perhaps you missed this in OP's post:
Around 1980, even native-born White men and women started getting shorter. (We’re looking specifically at Whites because they have the most robust data.)
The definition of "white" in this country has always been a moving target.
So wapo now defines Central americans and Asians as white?
Some of them are.
Grasping at any logic to blame POC![]()
Lots of people from Central and South America are Caucasian.
White South Americans loathe to come to the us as immigrants
White Central Americans are rare and while they aren’t as reticent to come to the us as South Americans, the numbers are minuscule
I’m from Central American and white. White is a race not an ethnicity.

I'm still skeptical. We've had massive demographic changes in the US since 1980 and plenty of white people are white Latinos or have some mixed race heritage but still look very white. Very hard to separate the demographic changes from everything else.
I suspect there's fiddling with data or ignoring unwanted data to make the narrative fit. WaPo does this all the time.
+1 WaPo is a very biased news source. Demographics have changed. That said, it's not clear whether there are other issues such as food additives and pesticides, vaccine side effects, etc. also affecting height.
microplastics. Everywhere. Even found in newborn's poop. It's crazy and recent study there are way more (very alarming numbers of microplastics) in two well-known bottled water companies. They definitely cause harm in the body and interfere with hormones. Packaged food and fast food also have a very high number.
This is scary. DD got the covid vaccines and it changed her period. We had no idea that was even a possible side effect. I've had other permanent side effects from medications. It's alarming how little we know about long-term side effects from things we put into our bodies. The FDA is under a lot of pressure to approve medications. It's a big business with lawyers pushing hard so they can make their billions.

He’s been a solid sleeper since early infancy.
I think so many young people are sleep deprived, screens, activities, studying etc., so they aren’t getting enough sleep and because they are spending so much time indoors they aren’t getting enough exercise. Little sleep and little exercise in childhood makes for smaller adults.

US already may have hit their max height and it's downhill from there.
Europe is going downhill soon too because fast food is overtaken cooking at home. Not at schools yet luckily.
