It's annoying for sure.

For many people it's also a tic.

My kid had this in mid elementary school and it was a very trying time. It will occasionally resurface very mildly.

I am sorry that it bothers you and others, but believe me, we tried a lot and spent a lot and at the end of the day, it's just a medical thing.

Also, consider not being a jerk. This might require informing yourself and being empathetic.

I do sometimes get a dry nose/throat when nervous, which makes me have to throat clear more.

If people stopped throat clearing, it would make their voices sound funny or they might choke on their own mucous. What a ridiculous request. Put in ear plugs if you don't like it.

They either have a tick, allergy or some other reason and it probably bothers them more than it bothers you.
