Sure it may follow him. But, frankly, that says more about the adults like you that like to pile on and be nasty than it does a kid who is doing a stupid thing. I judge people like you WAYYYY more harshly than I judge this kid.

Op, there have to be cutoffs for each letter grade. If you round one kid at 89.5 up, then shouldn’t you round 88.5 up, too? At some decimal place there must be a cutoff, clean and simple. The student should be angry with themselves for not digging into the material sooner and deeper. If the material had been mastered earlier and throughout the semester better, then the student would be in a clear A range. They are not in a clear A range. Rather, they are in a clear B range. Don’t teach your child that turning to TikTok to shame their boss is a respectable practice. Their next potential employer may Google their name and see their pitiful actions against a professor or someone else in charge and toss out their job application as a ‘no-go’. Teach your kid to ALWAYS do what’s right. Being mean on the social media is never right. It tells more about the sender than who the sender intended some narrative to be about.

Well, that fact that he got an 89.55 instead of a 93 or something was the kid's own doing, not the professor's.

What is the professor supposed to do? Time travel back a month and somehow convince the kid to study more?

The most important element with grading is maintaining an equal and fair playing field for all students. It has nothing to do with rounding up or down; rather, being consistent with your approach.
