Do you live in the DC area?? This topic is so big among DC lawyers, so many of whom were history majors and continue reading a ton about it.


Also do you not know any 50+yo men? I mean, they may start with Ancient Rome, but you can usually divert them to WWII pretty quickly. Try mentioning Dan Carlin. (See also John Mulaney (“My father is studying for his WWII exam…)

In college, we did a unit of urology — and it was fascinating! I never thought such a boring/weird topic would be so fascinating. Now I know why people go into urology as a discipline!

Mountain climbing. I have read every book and seen every movie about mountain climbing — although it is not something I would ever do myself. Lol.

I love a well designed graph or chart. I remember long ago Edward Tufte's book was quite popular in my field. I took his class. Still have that famous map depicting the progression of soldiers lost during Napoleon's Russia campaign.


It's so frustrating because on one hand I will be talking to people about what they researched and the graph they made and I'm talking and looking and talking and looking and things are not adding up. Then I have to ask, why did you make this graphic. And they never know. It's always their advisor or they saw it somewhere and thought it was cool but I'm like it's not telling your story.

Gardening - all of it! Forcing bulbs, dividing plants, garden design - I spend hours discussing with my older neighbors.

Also currently very interested in child development and the science of learning to read.
