I looked at my kindle and Libby. Roughly 140, including audio books. I’m in my 50s and my eyes get too tired to read as many paper books as I used to. I also love audio books for long drives and winding down for bed.

About 20. It's the quality that matters, not the quantity.

To the poster who hasn't read since 1980. Not surprising as half of Americans don't read. But, why are you in the book forum if you don't read.

I've been tracking how many books I read and writing a short "review" of my impressions since 2008. I love having a record of the books I've read. The reviews help jog my memory of details about the book, and it's just fun to look back through them once in a while. I am about to finish book #102 this year.

I listened to 51 audiobooks and I read 3 books with my eyes.
So depending on your perspective, I either read 3 books or 54.

I didn't keep track of how many books I read / listened to until this spring. When I heard that overdrive was going away on May 1 of this year I was like, OMG I will never be able to listen to audiobooks on my MP3 player again. So I bought an SD card for my MP3 player, made a list of all the audiobooks that my library has and that I wanted to listen to and then downloaded them if they were available. I ended up downloading a total of 166 books. Now as I listen to them I cross them off my list and then delete them from my MP3 player.
It turns out overdrive didn't go away and I can still download audiobooks to my MP3 player, but I didn't know at the time that overdrive would still be available.

I started tracking years ago after half way reading a few books I had already read.

A couple years ago I started writing short summaries and my personal thoughts. More summary than review. I realized I couldn’t really remember the book a month or so later. It was the classic “I read War and Peace. It was about Russia.” The summaries have helped my memory a ton, even though I rarely refer to them again.

Through that, I track.

I also don’t keep track. I checked Libby to get a count of things I’d borrowed from the library, counted how many books I’d read in the last month and multiplied that by 12. 😅 Then I also rounded down a bit because I feel like I’ve been reading more recently than I did at the beginning of the year.

That's interesting - I read 37 and they also said top 25%. I thought people would read more might get a different % but it sounds like they just sent top 25% to all those in it and made no further cuts.

Goodreads says I read 116 books in 2023 which is way more than I would have guessed. I got an email from them saying I was in the top 25% of readers which was also surprising, but I thought it was probably because people set up a Goodreads account but don't use it which skews the Goodreads average.

Probably 26–a lot less than last year, which was 37. I got stuck on a lot of books I didn’t really love this year and spent time casting around for something that appealed.
