I’ve asked politely when we’ve started our descent since that’s the hardest time for me (anxious flyer). I’ve never had anyone decline or had it be an issue. I wouldn’t ask someone to keep it up the entire time especially since there’s often sun/glare issues people are dealing with.

I’m a really nervous flyer, and I find it helps to have the window up. I try to get a window seat, but on the occasions I can’t, I normally do exactly this. I usually ask while the shade is still up (so they don’t have to change anything), acknowledge it’s just a request and I completely understand if they have a different preference. I’ve never had anyone refuse. On the occasions I’m in a center section, there’s normally at least one open window in view, which is good enough for me!

Many airlines charge more for the aisle or window. I think it makes sense as the middle seat is terrible. If you prefer, look at it as the aisle and window are the standard charge, and the middle seat is discounted.

What airline does this? I have never seen different prices for window/aisle and I fly a lot. Only the major carriers.

It doesn’t. Unless you’re in premium economy/exit row. People spout that all the time but it doesn’t.

If you care about this, you must book a window seat.

I always take the window seat, I watch the aerial map during the entire trip and feel better with the window open, seeing the ground is calming. I do have a problem when the person behind me reaches through the seat and closes my window.

Chill with the caps lock crazy woman - every airline does not require this. And many only give that instruction to the exit rows.

I always get aisle seats. I was on a few international flights recently where the flight attendants made some announcement about what to do with the window shade on take off and landing. I don’t recall if they said to put them up or down, because I wasn’t sitting in window seats, so it wasn’t my business. If I cared about controlling it, I would get a window seat.

I'm Team Shade Down. I don't like the glare and, for me, the view is of nothingness for 95% of the flight. But, I frequently have an aisle seat so it's not under my control.

I hate when the screen is up and the sun is too bright to see my computer or screen. Not everyone agrees op but it is the window seat passengers choice. Sit there if you want control.
