You also left out that our country was founded with the very important value of freedom of religion baked in. It’s part of the unique American experience to live in a country with religious freedom.

Please, move to a country like China or North Korea and enjoy living in a country with limited religious freedom.

I remind myself that we are not to seek happiness from this world. That we are all sinful.

The question of evil is a central question for Christianity. Tomes have been written on this subject, from theologians to great writers. If you really want to understand deeply and search for your own answers, i suggest doing some reading from great Christian writers.

For me personally, I admit it is very hard. When I converted to Christianity, I was younger, life was simpler and I thought I had satisfying answers for the question of evil. Now as I live life and get older, I realize that this is a question that will haunt me and probably every serious Christian until the day we die. I am a very empathetic person and it doesn't take a great deal to upset me greatly. As a parent now, it is very hard for me to understand evil commit against children. It evokes a visceral reaction in me and pits me into despair. All that is left is faith. Faith that we do not see the full picture, and that God does all things for the good of his children. Faith that heaven is so beautiful that it can make all the suffering and evil in this world fade away. I am at a point where every evil and suffering I see and experience, while I feel the pain, I also have an accompanying sense of awe at how great God and Heaven must therefore be.

How should I recognize it if I don't encounter it on a daily basis?

Wait....are you saying that your family is safe/saved because you have prayed for their safety against evil? That the people that were killed were not praying, or didn't pray right? That Jesus is protecting just certain people?

Jesus said not everyone will be saved. I am grateful he protects my family from evil and illness. I don't know personally what relationship with Jesus the people who were killed had. I had no idea.

I asked you three times: can you give examples where and when you encounter evil every day? I just have very hard time imagining seeing it every single day if you live in NOVA.
