Americans are idiots.
Yup.Idiots like my MIL who buys my 16 year old Halloween socks and pencils and buys a Halloween themed bag to put them in. I’d rather she have put all the money that she spends on useless junk like that into a college fund. We’d have at least a semester tuition paid for that way.
You sound like a super pleasant person.
I mean she’s not wrong.

It's your job to pay for college. It's her job to make your child's life fun.
That’s fine, she could use it towards a trip. My point is that a 16 year old does not want pencils or socks. I didn’t even mention the Halloween earrings from CVS that DD would never in a million years wear. She has a whole closet full of crap from grandma.

12 billion divided by 360 million Americans = 33 dollars per person.
Anonymous wrote:I’m glad you posted this, OP. The waste bothers me so much each year. All of the Oriental Trading type junk that is going to end up in the trash almost right away, and the zillion pumpkins using fertilizer, water, fuel etc to be grown and then not being used for food. We are the only country who wastes like this (on holidays and at other times as well) and it’s gross.

Anonymous wrote:That we don't give AF about the environment. It's all from China and it's all crap. I like that we celebrate Halloween full out here in America, I don't like how it revolves around buying crap.
