OP has probably been seeing the content by writers who in fact ask their readers to get in the library hold queue and doesn’t know that the fandom of this author is so cringe.

I am pretty sure this thread must have started over in the off topic section of DCUM and then Jeff moved it over here to the book club section. If you look, the posts on the first few pages of this thread were coming in at a new post every minute. In my opinion, there is no way a thread would have received that much traffic if it had started over here in the book lovers corner of DCUM.

There are just so many ways to support an author, and I think the people commenting on your post are maybe superfans who are trying to point out what the most ideal way is ... which, in my opinion as an author is to pre-order the book and/or to request at a library that was not planning on carrying it (my library system orders 16-32 books when a patron requests).

But checking it out from the library is also great!

These things are great too:

- Reviewing books you read on Goodreads and Amazon. Even if you didn't buy it from Amazon, you can still review books if you spend a certain amount of $ there. This is super helpful for algorithm type reasons, it can literally be a one-sentence review. The amount of reviews a book has leads to it being suggested as a "You may also like."

- Attending events at your local bookstore and buying copies there. (Do not take Amazon-purchased books to be signed at a bookstore event, that is tacky and thoughtless of the hard work the bookstore does for these events)

- Posting on your personal social media about books you like--posts with a pic of the cover are even better.



Note: Never, ever use pirated copies of books or audiobooks. That is stealing.

When I purchase books through my vendor I do not pay the cover price - I get a discount as part of a larger consortium. But I do pay for processing: covers, barcodes, labeling etc. so it could be a wash.
