Well don’t send them there. Send them to Georgetown, Glover Park, Observatory Circle, Woodley Park, Cleveland Park, Forest Hills and Chevy Chase DC.

If there’s a serious budget limit, maybe the places you said like Cap Hill but not Mt Pleasant and Takoma.

LOL, please disregard this person who has probably never set foot in Somerville. North Bethesda (AKA Rockville), Kensington, and Garrett Park are absolutely nothing like Somerville, they are significantly more suburban. That being said Garrett Park and the historic parts of Kensington are absolutely lovely and feel more like leafy New England suburbs than most of the sprawly suburban hellscape you find in this area. If I wanted to replicate a Cambridge lifestyle, I would look at Capitol Hill, Mount Pleasant, or Historic Takoma but honestly Boston and Cambridge are generally much safer than most of DC.

NW EOTP is huge. Shepherd Park/Colonial Village (as a PP mentioned most similar to WOTP and best schools), Takoma, Brightwood, Manor Park, Brightwood Park, Petworth, Columbia Heights, 16th St Heights, Mount Pleasant, Crestwood (also skews wealthy), Adams Morgan.

Which ones are safest is probably subjective. Some more searching will reveal that Petworth, Columbia Heights, and Brightwood Park tend to be problem areas. I see a lot of complaints about rising crime in Adams Morgan lately but I don’t know anyone who lives there and can’t tell you much.

It's still 1000X safer than 20-30 years ago.

If you are coming from Boston to the DC area, I think you will be disappointed. Are you sure you want to make this move?

If so, then I would go suburban. DC is not nearly as nice of a city as Boston. I have lived in DC for 22 years, and Boston is just nicer.

The suburbs of DC can be quite pleasant though, especially if your budget is at least $1.5 million.
