Last school year, I would walk my son to his elementary school in Potomac. A young student (1st or 2nd grade) would arrive to school regularly and get out of a car which reeked of weed. Adult (parent, guardian, driver?) would not drive through the carpool line and stopped across the street. I didn't report it but if I see it again, I will report it to the school administration. Truly awful.

Not really. Nobody ever gives specifics on DCUM so allow me to be the change:

I live in 20015 on a block of SFHs. The public ES is Murch. Kids on this block generally range from age 1 to age 12. The least expensive property is valued at ~ $1 million and the most expensive would go on the market for > $2m

I have never once smelled weed outdoors here, ever, nor have I seen any of my neighbors smoking on their porch. No children smell like weed. I’ve never seen an adult neighbor vaping anything outdoors while walking with a kid or otherwise. Fwiw, I’ve never seen my neighbors visibly drunk.

Could Ethan and Emily share a gummy at 11 pm before they bang? Sure. But I can assure everybody that there _are_ DC neighborhoods where weed stank doesn’t exist. We’re near Metro and Connecticut, not super urban but not “suburban” like the DC newcomers like to imagine

It’s a class thing. My block is white, black, asian and hispanic. And 100% highly educated professionals


I live in a similar neighborhood in Arlington, except, you know, my block is 99% white. During Covid, at least twice I said no to a joint being passed around a neighbor's fire pit after the kids went to bed.

Bullshit. We don't have the mix of races in my Georgetown neighborhood, but I wouldn't consider it lower class. Weed smoke is prevalent. I prefer running before sunrise and am still surprised at the number of people I run by before 6am that are out toking up. If you're a "100% highly educated professional" you should be smart enough to let go of this outdated stereotype.

New poster here. I have never smoked weed. I hate the smell. I don't want it in my house or my yard. Did I mention how much I hate it? It smells far worse than it did in the 80s when I was a teen. But I have a teen son who has tried it. He hides the smell by showering and changing clothes before he comes home. If there are parents out there doing similar things to hide the smell, it probably works.
