Not necessarily. He might be doing it to meet people too; also, it might be something I actually enjoy but would not otherwise have motivated to actually do.
Men don't go fly fishing to meet women.
No, but they are certainly not averse to it! Don't know if you've attended many actual fly fishing group meetings (either on the water or if they meet once a month elsewhere, like in a bar), but there are plenty of single men, and very few women.

I have male family members who are in the EMS/Fire service, and while I love them, I have to say that the typical firehouse is a toxic, misogynist, racist, conservative political dumpster fire. Fox News is on 24/7 in the lounge and even nice guys who enter this service are eventually influenced negatively by the toxic environment.
I have met many of their EMS friends, and I would say 10% are not toxic and normal guys I would date, and only then the younger ones. By the time they are in their 50s, the toxic environment has had a long influence. TBH, also a good percentage of these guys are not very smart. Foe some women, that may not matter.

Fly fishing seems less likely since so much of the attraction is being on the river alone, or nearly alone.
I'd join a convent before taking up golf, trap/skeet or fly fishing.
