You might ask how you can be arrested 11 times and still be free on the streets to commit murder.

The answer: the people the police arrest aren’t being prosecuted.

It’s true this is a big part of the equation. US Attorney for DC prosecutes a tiny fraction of arrests. The statistics are truly galling.

There should be a mechanism for having the USAO removed if their prosecution rate is low.

And that is due in part to our awful uncertified crime lab. The Department of Forensic Sciences directorship has been posted for months now. Bowser and MOTA Director Walker are going to have to actually try to find someone if they care about crime in this city. And they are going to have to look outside their shrinking circle of sycophants, too.

Karl Racine was too busy filing frivolous lawsuits against Facebook and Google to prosecute criminals

“No chase policy” did not come from the police.

Same with decision to not prosecute cases after the police do all the work to arrest a criminal.

- and OP has repeatedly voted to hobble the police, defund them, demoralize them, restrict their ability to deter or fight crime.

Please tell us you are not a democrat, OP? (you are a dem.)

You are getting exactly what you voted for OP. Now stop whining.

Uh … no. My Councilmember ran unopposed and I wrote someone in. The last mayoral candidate I voted for was Catania. There are ZERO options for DC voters.

Maybe the Republicans should stop being a trainwreck clown car so people actually take them seriously.

Republicans had ZERO to do with the current council. In fact, Republicans did not support nor run on the “defund the police” platform your party ran on.

Democrats on their own support defunding the police; and gutting criminal Justice laws.

Your party owns his. Time for you to own it. You got exactly what you voted for.

Uh … no. Republicans are the reason guns are flowing like wine. If we had strict gun control - or hell, no guns - we would not have the level of violent crime we are seeing in the city. You can thank Trump and the ridiculous fools on the Supreme Court.

What an utter load of BS!

Democrats hobbled the MPD, curtailed criminal justice laws, and refused to prosecute following arrests.

But you already knew that.

Please describe how Democrats hobbled MPD. They have more money than they've ever had and have chosen to enforce fewer things on top of that. We have one of the largest per capita police forces in the country.

Right outside DC in Montgomery County, the council has enacted over 20 new resolutions that greatly restrict what the police can do. Is DC doing the same?

The POLICE aren’t choosing to enforce fewer laws. The politicians are.

So you're denying that Republicans have made it next to impossible to have common sense gun laws that would keep them out of the hands of criminals? You sound like a Russian bot.

Factors from both sides. Stop with the simplistic arguments. It's not either/or.

-Local reduction in prosecution rates, catch and release, etc (left driven).

-Easy ability for excessive straw purchases and trafficking in loose gun law states allowing easy illegal gun access for juvenile criminals locally - most guns in crimes come from states with loose gun laws (right driven).
