I’m in Leesburg with the tornado warning. No funnel as far as I know but we were outside watching and there’s definitely cloud rotation. Storm is right on us now, started raining about 3-4 minutes ago- lightning and wind and heavy rain. No hail yet. Wind not as bad as derecho was , hopefully it won’t be.

Well I’m in Loudoun and a tornado warning just went off on my husbands phone

So basically that OPM early departure came too late for the folks going northwest.

Just plan for a non-electric dinner, due to possible power outages. If you have a gas stove, that's easy. You can light the flame with a lighter.

The risk of a tornado isn't that high, but you will probably get high winds. This means no basement necessary unless your phone goes off for a tornado warning, but staying on your main level is wise, if you live in a regular house with an upper level comprised of bedrooms. If you have young kids with early bedtimes, I would hold off on putting them to bed upstairs until you're sure a tree isn't going to fall on your upper level.

Same! I’m struggling figure out dinner fir the family because I’m stressed about this. We kept our power last weekend but a power surge shorted our HVAC and we didn’t have AC for four days. Got it fixed and now this. I feel like our house is particularly exposed to high winds.

Would love for this to be a bust!!!!

I didn't even think about dinner, but that's the exact window of the storm! I guess snacks for dinner in the basement isn't the worst thing in the world, or we aim for a later dinner.

Just wanted to note that for the past several hours, regions of north central MD, northwestern VA and panhandle of WV have been hit with 70mph wind gusts (one warning went to 80mph) and golf ball sized hail.

There have been two tornado warnings in that general area, but don't know if any damage has been reported.

Currently, the thinking is that the winds will be a lot more destructive than potential tornados, but that might change.
