Yes it has been helpful. I will have him research some of the schools mentioned (rit, Rpi, RH, mines etc). May ask him to reconsider Purdue since it does a lot of yield protect and add one or two of these colleges. Just hoping for some good merit to justify the cost of them over NC State).

I have no recommendations on the school front but OP I hope you come back on admissions day EA/ED and Regular and let us know where your kid got in vs. where they ended up applying. I would have him apply ED to Cornell, he has a better chance there. I know two kids with similar profile as the ops kid, private school 3.75 ish gpa who got into Cornell last year ED. They did not have any outstanding ECs. Cornell ED acceptance rate is pretty high compared to other ivies.

I agree that he has very minuscule or no chance at Princeton.. But how do you stop your kid from taking his shots.

Duke in general has a preference for Carolina kids but I don’t think there is preference for kids from our school.

He started with Cornell, U penn, Duke and Princeton for Ed/ rea. Was able to eliminate Cornell (does not like the intense culture) but liked Duke’s play hard, work hard culture. Upenn is also in the running but again, I don’t think they have any preference for kids from our school.

I think he also knows that he has a very small chance at Princeton but he is a kid who is used to shooting for stars but also is very used to dealing with disappointments (comes from playing sports) so will be able to get over it quickly and pivot to other options.
