In grad school I used to batch cook on Sundays and invite my friends over for dinner, and then eat the leftovers all week. One of my good friends said, “I could be vegetarian too, if I could cook like you.”

I'm a school psychologist. When I was an intern, my supervisor told me "you're so kind and gentle. You're going to be like the grandma of whatever school you end up at."

So many of these are total schmaltzy BS.

I love the story about the old lady in the restaurant who sees the unhappy kid and says what amazing eyes she has. That's the only story here worth reading.

And mine obviously.

Just a funny pickup line that stuck out - at a bar in college a fellow college student told me he would marry me and buy me a dolphin. Lots of proposals/we could get married situations back then but this was the only dolphin

“You know who you are and you make no apologies for it.” A friend of mine said that to me in my 20’s and it stayed with me.

One of my children tells me I make the “best food.” He enjoys my cooking so much and it’s obvious it brings him a lot of joy… so I’m pretty much amenable to taking all dinner requests from him

I like this question and it really got me thinking to the compliments we've received throughout our lives and how they really add up. I wish I had done more with the ones I received, but here's a few that have stuck with me:
-My 7th grade teacher told me I'm a really good writer and that I speak with a natural voice. Always kind of stuck with me.
-A guy I was dating when I was in my twenties told me that I'm a funny writer and my writing style reminded him of Dave Barry. I found that so flattering.
-I was relaying a story to my friend and she blurted out, "You're so funny. You always make me laugh." I love making other people feel good through humor, so that made me feel great.
-My former boss told me that I'm the only she can always count on and that I'm the calming force on our team. I've since moved on from that job, but have tried to take those qualities into my next role.

And I'll leave you with this compliment, not about myself--when I was 16, I was working as a hostess in a restaurant with my BFF and a waiter, who must have been in his twenties but just seemed old to me at the time, said to me about my friend as she walks by, "She has an ass that would make grown men cry." I'll never forget hearing this as my friend waltzed on by conflicted with whether I should agree because he wasn't entirely wrong or get the hell out of there.

This is so cute. It's nice to hear the nice things our spouses think about us. Sometimes they think we already know but its still nice to hear.
