Seems like it could be problematic to find housing for 4 or 5 months or just one semester off campus - but I'm sure they figure it out.
Back when my siblings attended, incoming freshmen with higher test scores and GPA’s were given 4 years. So the really smart ones got 4 years. Not sure if that is still the case.
