Is Tech not walkable to town? I could have sworn we walked to a bar from campus when I visited a friend there

No, it’s in Fairfax VA. VT is almost a five hour drive out near Blacksburg VA. Are you thinking of JMU?

Indiana University. Great town and close to Lake Monroe. The college kids hike and boat there. There is also skiing about a n hour away for winter outdoor activities.

What are you smoking? GMU is at Old Town Fairfax. Jitney busses take the kids all hours of the night to restaurants snd shopping. The same busses take students downtown to the DC Mall. There are now five GMU campuses, one in Arlington, the high tech campus in Prince William County, the conservation campus in Front Royal and so on. Even Mason Korea is in a city in Songdo, Korea

If your child does not care at all about ranking and prestige, Northern Arizona University. It’s 45 minutes from downtown Sedona, in a small city with a ton of hiking and mountain biking, and has a true ski mountain in town.

This is something to consider. The University of Texas will fit your wishes nicely. Obviously the city is amazing but I don't think many people know about the "nature" aspect of Austin.

Penn Station can be as little as an hour from Harriman State Park.
