Pp again. Basis is not as prestigious as Big 3 obviously. It is a new school in an office building with no sports and limited extracurricular activities. I am sure the Big 3 is full of talented and children of well connected families. I was just stating that we know some very bright students who attend Basis.

I don’t see that at all. According to US News, TJ is over 450 students per grade and over 70% Asian. BIM 9-12 is under 50 students per grade (under 35 per grade for 10-12!) and less than 1% Asian. Also, TJ is free and BIM charges tuition. It’s really hard for me to imagine any family being attracted to both schools.
Pp here. I have no dog in this fight. I just know the elementary and middle school students we know who went to Basis were extremely bright. I have no doubt they will end up at top colleges. They would have gotten there whether they stayed at our local McLean pyramid, TJ, Potomac or any other private.
I’m actually very disappointed that the only McLean private school options we have are Basis, Potomac and Little Langley.

I don't know how it stacks up with the Big 3, but I'm not one who pays too much attention to college placement. I just had a kid go through the admissions process and it is so, so much more nuanced than a list can capture. There is no doubt the school is a STEM grinder, but ask someone whose kid goes there what their curriculum lacks and the ECs/sports they don't offer (either due to lack of interest by the student body or the school's choice) that the typical private (or even public) school in this area provides. If comparisions must be made, it probably makes more sense to compare Basis to TJ.

Your question was "Is BASIS McLean as good or better than the Big 3?" Good or better is subjective. To some, the limited ECs, sports, targeted curriculum, smaller cohorts, office building facilities, high teacher/administrator turnover, etc. speaks to a weaker experience for their kids so no, that would not be considered "good or better".

The college equivalent of for-profit would be University of Phoenix, Devry University, etc. That is the same category I would place BASIS McLean, in the for-profit category.
