I'm very curious why you are the biggest Wilson fan. You certainly aren't alone, I just don't get the adoration. Since Wilson will be mayor for life, I'd really like to understand.
-What he wants is what I want: a diverse and vibrant Alexandria with an economically viable tax base, built on the back transit-oriented (and density-friendly, near transit) development. The Potomac Yard metro is his biggest accomplishment - the opportunity that land presents for the city is unmatched, and we are finally arriving at the good stuff after years of effort. What is happening at Landmark makes all the sense in the world too - take unused undertaxed land and put things on it that serve citizens of Alexandria. We've removed confederate names on his watch, we've revitalized the entire old town waterfront and north old town as well. We are building the kind of mixed use, walkable or transit-oriented neighborhoods that the next generation wants to live in (now we have to make it possible for them to afford to live there, but that's also on the agenda)
-He's absolutely ideologically consistent. He is who he is, he supports what he supports, you know exactly what you're getting with him (and the vast majority of Alexandrians want he wants, which is why we keep voting him back in)
-In addition, he is unmatched in actually getting answers and solutions to small things for people who live here - which is the core of what small local government exists to do (get the trash removed, have roads that work, etc.)
I think our biggest problem as a city is obviously schools - but the city council and mayor have very limited influence there unfortunately. But I appreciate that he lived his values and sent his kids there, unlike many other school board and city leaders before him.
You're being disingenuous, and that's being kind. 36,000 people voted for Wilson in the last mayoral election. That's less than 25% of residents. No way the "vast majority of Alexandrians want what he wants."
I mean yes, it is true that not everyone votes. Because some people are children, or immigrants, or poor/working/not in a position to take time to vote.
I promise you the blue-haired denizens of...that facebook group I am definitely blocked from and right now cannot remember the name of... are not the missing turnout voters.
You had me until the ad hominem attacks. People have legitimate concerns about the city and the schools. Name calling doesn't change that, even if you don't agree with them. Sadly, this is what your guy Wilson does to people too. Do better.
And you had me until you were like "Children don't vote and they might also want really big wide roads and exclusionary zoning if they could /BIBA OUT (I remembered!)" - and of course the thing about not bothering to engage with any of the actual substantive reasons I laid out. It's never in good faith with you all.

You understand that he literally did nothing and was not responsible for WMATA adding that metro station. He's a ribbon cuter and photo taker as a mayor. That's it. It's a ceremonial position.
I worked on the financing for this deal back in the 2000s. It's been in the works for decades. Wilson cannot take any, and I mean ANY, credit for this project. Please stop that noise.
A lot happened after the financing for the deal in the 2000s. And your phrasing that "WMATA added it" like Alexandria did not champion it and pay for substantial parts of it and then negotiate for Amazon to fix the parts that had to be cut due to budget to make the station whole again - that's all stuff that happened in the last decade and the mayor championed. Speaking of that entrance deletion, that was a major screwup on his part and the whole council's, but at least he owned it, vs the actual mayor who I still have no idea whether she actually knew what had happened or if her head was just spinning around on her neck there in 2017/2018 while we dealt with that unpleasantness.
The whole thing is sad. The guy who was shot attended the same high school my child attends. Of course, no one can tell the future, but their experiences seem so far apart based on the photo of the guy holding a gun. I don't know what can be done to change things.
The photo of the guy holding a gun was like 10 years old, wasn't it?

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Wilson released a video. Lots of forceful talk. His del ray/north ridge voting base are now satisfied so nothing to see here!
No mention of another car jacking that just happened today?
"3307 Block of Wyndham Circle. Woman forcefully pulled out of her Lexus RX 350 early this morning 9am and was then car jacked. Helicopter support issued. Car headed North on 395."
They just ignore this?

Yes, but he still participated in gang activity.
