Why? Because you lack self control? Because you envy people who can eat more than you? Restaurant food, like many other things, isn’t about “need,” it is about freedom of choice.

Because then I could pay less.

You could pay $0 if you stayed at home

I agree with this. Even kids' meals are often enormous.
I ordered a single kid's meal for my kids to share (2 and 4) because I knew they wouldn't make a dent in it. The proprietor who was taking our order actually criticized me for it! He said "How am I supposed to stay in business when you're splitting meals and not ordering enough food."
I never finish anything at a restaurant and always eat it the next day, but if someone doesn't care to eat leftovers they shouldn't have to throw out their food. Sell half-portions.

We order kids meals for our kids and take home leftovers. They can have the rest of the meal for lunch or dinner the following day.

No one’s brought up having water instead of paying several dollars for a soda or other kind of beverage.

I’m a big believer in lunch specials. A place close to me offers a $10 lunch special that’s easily 2 or 3 meals.

When I worked downtown, I was a regular at Greek Deli. Avgolemono soup plus a giant chunk of bread for $6. Yum

Bethesda bagels- you can get any bagel as a mini bagel for about 1/2 price. The mini bagels are still huge. Most sandwiches come with cheese and cream cheese counts a cheese. Get cream cheese (flavored) on the side and an extra mini bagel for 2 meals

Panera- get a pick 2 if you are ordering for 2 people and split it. The pick 2 saves 3.00 and if you need an extra bag of chips or piece of bread it’s .49 cents

Panera had such small portions. I'll get a pick two for myself and still feel hungry afterward.

You do realize that many kids aren’t toddlers, right? My 11 year olds are still “kids” most places (under 12), although at this point they order off the regular menu bc the kids meal isn’t enough. Pretty sure older kids eat more than 2 year olds. It’s for a range of kids.

Portions are no longer as generous now while prices have gone up.

. The kids meals are meant to be ordered with an adult meal. Not for cheap adults. If you can't afford to eat out just stay home.

So a restaurant would rather have no customer than one who just orders a small meal or an appetizer? When many restaurants are struggling? I'm now in my 50s and don't have the appetite I used to. Should older people only eat at home now too? What an odd business model.

Restaurant owner here. Yes you should just stay home if you're trying to hack a kids meal into an adult's meal. Kids meals are loss leaders that at offset by the accompanying adult meal. Plus you are taking up a table. I don't understand why you are dragging old people into your scheme. We love our customers of all ages!

DP. Not my problem as a customer. I don't need enormous portions so it's either I "take up a table" and have a smaller meal or don't come at all..

Then do not come at all. No restaurant wants you there, ordering a meal that they lose money on, and taking up a table.

It’s a free country, pal.

If you want to hack, get in and out fast and don't make a mess. If you there just for tea and cake, don't touch the wrapped up silverware that is clearly for dinner.
Don't order food to go and then eat it on our patio and leave the packages there for us to clean up. Not an hack. You are cheap and should stay home.

Can i bring food from home and eat in your patio if i order drink ?

No. No outside food.

Wow! You are intense.

Uh. No, it’s quite standard. You don’t bring food into a place that sells food. It can also be a liability issue.

By the way that was a joke!
“About bringing your on food”.

A steak at Silver Diner is the same price as a steak from the grocery store and it comes with 2 sides.

And taxes and a tip.

So worth it! All you cheap-o's stay home!
