Anonymous wrote:People, can we stop bashing him for being out at 2 am? Unless you are a basement troll dweller, I am each and everyone has taken risks and gotten away with it, and not thought twice.
To Friend of Bob upthread, I am very sorry for your loss. This must be utterly shocking and devestating.
Anonymous wrote:They just had an expert on CNN about this. She said that if you look at the numbers, it’s petty crime that’s way up in SF. Things like smashed car windows and muggings. But that the violent crime rate is still below many other cities, she cited Houston as having a much higher rate. She then talked about the Mayor, London Breed, who is “fed up” and trying to do something about it.

My husband and I are absolutely devastated. He was extremely kind and generous. He was absolutely brilliant at coding. Imagine one of your friends - the one who is funny, kind, always makes you feel good when you’re around them. That was Bob.
From my understanding he was on good terms with his ex wife. I know it’s fun to speculate but she is a very kind, very sweet person. I am 100% certain she had nothing to do with this.
Bob was a complete night owl. I know back in his coding days, he’d do those crazy hackathons all night. He had no problem staying up late. It is absolutely no surprise to me he was out at 2:30 am. He was probably working late or catching up with a friend at a local bar.
I so wish I could go back in time and tell him to stay in. We are all scratching our heads. I think he must have come across a mentally ill person or just someone who wanted to murder another human being. Bob wasn’t stupid, if he had been mugged he would’ve handed over everything. And he kept good company. He didn’t have enemies. It’s really senseless.

There are condos and such, but it’s not an area with a lot of nightlife and there’s more industrial areas right around it.
My DD lives and works in Rincon. The are has businesses and highrises. It was a very safe white neighborhood until about 2 years ago when SF decided to set up a sort of homeless sanctioned encampment. People had bought condos for over $1M right before the city set up the tented encampment. Now, and especially with this murder, no one can sell.
Interesting. It sounds very similar to NoMa in DC - tons of new development but still sketchy.
