I'd argue that women are even more superficial in that sense. At least 50% of women would tell you they want a 6 foot tall man. How many men are that tall? 10%? There is little one can do about height.
Men on the other hand can take a second look at a woman who has lost weight, fixed her hair and sometimes it's as easy changing her clothes.
And I’d say even if women are willing to compromise some on height, many women will never date a man who is 5’7” and under
As a woman I would say that this is not because of not being attracted to the man it's because of not wanting sons to have to deal with being short men.

If some 5’7” 200-pound schlub asked you out – and you knew he had $50 million – you would be batting your eyelashes and twirling your hair like you were in middle school again.
5 foot 8 woman here.
A 5 foot 7 man would have to be perfect: Handsome, kind. Sweet, lean, neat etc.
A 6'3 man could be missing an arm and a leg, and have one eye. and I would pick him first.

Oh God, you get a kid with 2 arms and 2 legs, and grows up sorta happy, thank your lucky stars.

There are only so many wealthy men. Not many.
The average woman is not getting a wealthy man. And the average man is not getting an above average woman.
The average man is getting the best he can get. And the best he can get is average because the handsome and wealthy men already got the above average women.
The average man is actually getting a below average woman. Otherwise the numbers don't add up. There are only so many above average women to go around.
