A lot of people here, especially on this thread, only care about crime (ahem, “gun violence”) to the extent they can use it to complain about those mean old Republicans. They don’t want to do anything they could actually do themselves, today, to address the problem.

Agree there. We need to put violent repeat offenders and people who committed crimes involving guns behind bars and keep them there. If there's not enough room, free the people who were busted for victimless crimes like possession without intent to distribute, and/or build another prison somewhere where there's cheap and plentiful real estate.

Red staters are always quick to point at DC crime and say we don't do enough about it. Maybe they should step up and offer to host DC prisoners in their jails. Same with the homeless. If they want to complain about it, they should be prepared to pitch in and do something about it as well.

VA has gun shows all the time, and I believe you can easily score guns at pawn shops. Probably online, too.

Yes and I also know that the police I know personally also complain that straw purchase trafficking is a significant issue. Do you think police are so dumb as to only focus on one issie when they are smart enough to see multiple factors? I don't.

So if we actually LISTEN TO THE POLICE EXPERTS, on this issue, we could reduce homicide rates locally.

So yes, please, let's actually BACK THE BLUE.

If blue state gun laws were adopted federally across the US, we would see a reduction in gun crime, hands down. So it is important to voice this concern to federal leaders. It's not just about DC, it's about crime across the entire country and beyond.

Might knife crime increase with more limited access to guns? Yes, sure. But is that as likely to impact an innocent bystander, a child out playing in their yard during a driveby? Is it as easy to carjack a car with a knife vs a gun? Nope.
