Yes. I think any wealthy city (I just happen to know folks in those) has the same type of driven parents. This is not solely a DMV issue, although we like to feel special.

40% GPA(including rigor, etc. + 40% Tests + 20% extra stuff essay, awards(real ones), activity, etc.

According to College Factual, that school's six year graduation rate is 9%.

It's the mayor and governor's job.

Agree. I see it as the parents’ insecurity driving the insanity. Believe in your kids! I raised my kids to have the skills they will need to succeed in the world (and those are not skills you learn in Kumon or a cram class). One of my kids is a junior at a very good college and can already see how her soft skills are paying off in research and internships. The other is a HS senior and has chosen a school that is often denigrated on here because it was the right fit (turned down higher ranking schools). That child will be unstoppable because she has EQ off the charts.
