I have two boys about to become teenagers. They have shown an interest in babysitting to earn some money. I hope there truly isn’t a bias against boys. That’s what I and my spouse had growing up! Had the best times too!

Out of all the options out there, it’s highly unusual that pre-teen boys want to babysit more than anything else. What other interests do they have?

Of course there’s a bias against male babysitters for obvious reasons. You already know that. Just check out all the teachers who recently assaulted children. What percentage were female?? And there we are. Parents aren’t that stupid. Sorry.
Why say things that aren’t true? It’s not highly unusual for teen boys to want to babysit as it’s easy money and lots of the male babysitters I’ve seen play sports with the kids they are watching, and aren’t texting the whole time like their female counterparts.

Girls are much much more likely to be mean bullies and abuse kids. I only hire teen babysitters whose families we personally know.

This is your opinion, not fact. The second part makes sense. Why would you hire someone to take care of your children you didn't know?

It’s a fact that a users are far more likely to be male (though of course most men and boys are not abusers!) in my opinion the risk isn’t worth it.

+1

It's the same reason you probably wouldn't open your door for a young black male but wouldn't hesitate for a little old lady.

No need for your racism here.

Not racist. This thread is stating that statistically men are more likely to abuse than women. In the same vein, young black men are more likely to commit a crime than a little old lady.

Young men are more likely to commit crimes. And if you’re white you are much more likely to be murdered or assaulted by a white person than you are a black person. Most crime is intraracial. So if you’re white (which I assume you are) you should be more cautious of young white men than young black men.

This is BS.

Lol it is definitely not BS. So a google scholar search.

On the flip side, maybe male nannies don’t want to do pretend play with calico critters or do crafts for hours on end, but that’s perfect for me. I work in Beverly Hills, and it’s super common for families to have male caregivers for their pre and teen boys.

Why would a teen need a babysitter at all? I would say that is extremely uncommon

If you saw in my previous post, I work in Beverly Hills. Outsourcing parenting is what people do here. Do you think these SAHMs are going to drive their kids to soccer and volleyball and piano? Cook their own meals? Do their own shopping? No. I currently nanny for 12, 14, 16 year old teens for $42/hr. They pay me 40hrs a week. That’s just how things are done here. If the parents don’t parent their toddlers, it’s pretty unlikely they’re going to parent their teens.

I'm not sure castration is the best answer but I would support a ban on any males entering the country until we get our own out of control males under control, somehow. Maybe we could build a wall. When there is indisputable evidence that most crime of all kinds is perpetrated by a particular group it makes sense to institute a ban.
I guess you’ll be out there building bridges wand digging ditches etc because the last time I checked, it was mostly immigrant men doing it.

Spoiled little boys eventually become “out of control” men. What did you expect?

What is your statistical evidence for this assertion

FBI UCR data. It's a fact, and the statistics will blow your mind.

Wow, so many responses about people molested by male babysitters. There's your answer OP.

I will never have a male babysitter.

Then you are missing out on phenomenal sitters. I have two boys and used a make babysitter primarily for them. He was athletic and sksi on the honor roll. He wasn't primping, mooning over a girlfriend, talking on phone all the time.

He was babysitting and lawn work to buy his first car.

Both my boys tried to model him and so many of his good qualities trickled down to them. He was in such demand that I paid him well over prevailing wage.

Not hiring teen age boys to babysit is as prejudiced as not hiring an AA or Hispanic teen age girl.

Eh, I'm okay with missing out on some phenomenal babysitters if it also means missing out on the majority of child sex abusers. YMMV.
Keep your kids away from your family if real stats are important to you.

So...did you hire a minority teen girl to babysit? No. You hired a male, and paid him more than you would have paid a girl. It sounds like you are extremely prejudiced, and sexist too.

You should listen to that dull roar in the empty space between your ears.

I paid him more because other parents were trying to poach him from me. If he wasn't available I used other sitters irrespective of gender and/or race.

No, he wasn't in demand. He told you he was so you would pay him more. He played you.
Different poster, but I babysit all the time to make extra money and I was definitely in demand because I worked at an after school program, and the kids all wanted me to babysit. It was good money.
